Filming during an epidemic - why not?

“I’m sorry, but we’re going to have to cut the filming short for today. Everyone in the company has been asked to leave the premise and proceed to work from home effective immediately.”

I’ll take “Things you don’t normally hear at a film shoot” for $500. It was the third and final day of a very hectic but fun shoot for Alfa Laval. Ben and I had traveled to Alfa Laval’s base in Denmark from Lund to work on the final part of our employer branding project. We had just finished our interview with a lovely gentleman named Sergio from the automation team, who talked to us about the agile transformation his team was going through at the moment. After ending our chat I proceeded to remove the lavalier attached to his shirt collar, when he told me “I’ve actually been feeling a bit under the weather recently, I hope that didn’t come across in the video.” Ben and I looked at each other and laughed “Emir, let’s get outta here,” he joked. Little did we know, that almost immediately after that, we did in indeed have to get out of there because of the now confirmed coronavirus outbreak.

It didn’t end there however, because in adversity lies opportunity. We gathered the rest of the automation team we were supposed to interview and asked them if we could go to a public space to finish up the shoot (as long as they were willing of course). Jan, the leader of the automation team, told us that there was a lovely café called “Granny’s house” nearby, which apparently had the best cinnamon buns in Denmark. We were approaching noon and we had still not eaten breakfast, so cinnamon buns sounded REALLY good. We grabbed a couple of cars, drove down there and created our own little impromptu set to continue the shoot in. To my absolute delight, it was a great success. We managed to keep everyone in good spirit, while commenting on the absurdity of the situation. We had our buns, filmed our interviews and sighed a sigh of relief. You just never know with Local Glimpse. Sometimes you might need to film during an epidemic, and why not?
